Twitter First Impressions Have A Stronger Impact Than Face To Face First Impressions!
Twitter as we all know has taken the internet world by storm. Everyone young and old seems to be able to understand the simple question of “What Are You Doing”. People Twitter at work, from home, from their cell, Blog, Facebook, etc. It’s easy and it’s interesting.
Marketing people have also found that Twitter is a useful resource. Imagine having an audience of 25,000 people looking at simple comments as they surface on the internet. Someone selling something salavates at the idea of sending an ad along the pipeline that can sell this or that. Everyone sees money. As one person put it to me, imagine you are a radio station with an audience of 25,000 people. Your ad revenue you would be great making your radio station have a nice value to someone wishing to purchase it. With Twitter, you have no overhead, no buildings, no employees, you get the picture!
So you decide you want to be part of the Social Media Network and you start your Twitter account. Being the savy marketer you are, you can’t wait to jump in both feet with some of your clever ads that happen to be very well written. You immediately make your first post something like, “Hi Just Joined Twitter”.. Then your second post “I can make you $350 a day, no work, no hassels. See hjzxd.com for more…”
If you use an Auto follower responder, DO NOT MAKE IT ONE OF THESES ADS !
Your first impression that you have set is that you are glad to be on Twitter and your second posting validates you only want to market some product to sell and you could care less about the others in the community. Anyone that sees that combination of posts has just eliminated you from their “I like This Person” data bank.
Better Plan… “Hi I jsut started my Twitter Account and can’t wait to meet new peeps” ,, Second Post.. “Isn’t it great to see the Red Sox doing so well this year?”
Your building relationships ! Trust sells ! People respond to those they trust and feel they are bringing value to the social media community.
I have 25,000 followers as of this writing. My prescription goes like this,, 5 to 8 interesting postings every day.. These can be Quips and Quotes you find on the internet. Just google those terms. Along with that I mix in 3 or 4 ads a day.
The true test is how many #FF (Follow Friday’s) you get from your first and many impressions on the internet. Twitter is a Social Media. Always keep that in mind! Your words are your face at Twitter, make sure your face has a smile on it just like you would if you met face to face. First Impressions are so vital to sales.
